Again, Buhari Meets Govs, Security Chiefs Over Insecurity
President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in a closed-door meeting with Governors of North East and Security Chiefs at the Presidential Villa.
The meeting has in attendance Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the six North-East Governors, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, and the President’s Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari.
The North-East Governors in attendance are Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum; Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintri; Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed; Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya; Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku and Governor Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni.
Also at the meeting are the Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ekwe Ibas; Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar; the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and the Director General, Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi.
The Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufa’i; Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi and Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammad Dingyadi are also attending the meeting.
The meeting is expected to deliberate on the insurgency in the North-East and other security situations confronting the zone.
The president had also on August 4, 2020, held a security council meeting where he told the service chiefs that their performance was not good enough.
The National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, who spoke to newsmen at the end of the meeting, disclosed that the President was planning a complete re-engineering of the nation’s security apparatus.
