Salaries Computation: Wages Commission Warns Workers Of Fraudsters
AMINA HUSSAINI
The National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) has warned civil servants to beware of activities of fraudsters in the computation of arrears of salaries and pensions.
A statement by the Acting NSIWC Chairman, Ekpo Nta, said the computation of arrears of salaries and pensions is not among the Commission’s mandates.
Nta said the warning became necessary in view of increasing enquiries from serving and retired pensioners.
The commission expressed concern that gullible workers and pensioners may defrauded in the process.
He urged workers and pensioners to disregard such telephone calls and text messages and report same to law enforcement agencies.
He added, “The commission clarifies that it only conveys to the Ministry Department and Agencies (MDAs) approvals for implementation of revised salaries, allowances and pension and where payment of arrears is involved, it is the MDAs that compute it for their workers, and the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) computes the arrears of pensions for pensioners where necessary.”
