Kyari gave the target during an inspection tour of NPDC’s oil and gas facilities and installations in Benin, Edo State.
The NNPC boss commended the NPDC management for boosting the country’s upstream capacity by an additional 124,000 barrels per day.
Kyari disclosed that the NPDC has “magnificently” grown its production capacity from about 136,000bpd in 2019 to 260,000bpd in 2020.
He said, “The target in two years is to grow capacity to 500,000 bpd, which is achievable considering projects to be lined up.
“Although it’s a  commercial venture, NPDC is a national responsibility and is currently the largest contributor of gas to  the domestic market (for power sector) delivering about one billion standard cubic foot of gas per day to the entire country’s production mix.”
The NNPC group managing director stated that the company, which is owned 100 per cent by Nigerians, is being supported by key stakeholders, including President Muhammadu Buhari, to become the main upstream company in Nigeria.
