Consumers Pay Higher Fuel Price In Four States – NBS

Consumers in Adamawa, Imo, Abia and Enugu States paid higher fuel price in July 2020 compared to their counterparts in other states, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have revealed.

The NBS, in its August report released on Monday, said the average price of fuel per litre in Adamawa, Imo, Abia and Enugu were N145, N145, N144.93 and N144.80, respectively.

The NBS reported that Ogun State had the lowest average price of petrol of N140.30 per litre in July, followed by Kwara and Gombe States with N140.50 and N142.57, respectively.

The Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) had on July 1 given a pump price band of N140.80 and N143.80 to retail marketers across the country.

The Statistics agency reported an increase of 11:44 percent month-on-month in the average petrol price from N128/88 percent in June to N143.63 percent in July.

“The average price paid by consumers for automotive gas oil (diesel) increased by 0.03 per cent month-on-month and decreased by -0.23 per cent year-on-year to N224.43 in July 2020 from to N224.37 in June 2020,” the NBS said.

It noted that the highest average price per liter for diesel was recorded in Borno State (N263.40), followed by Bauchi (N240) and Cross River (N239.12).

The three States accounted for the lowest average price of diesel duribg the month under review. The states are Rivers (N204.06), Ekiti (N205.20) and Delta (N206.00).

Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Bayelsa recorded the highest average price for refilling of a 12.5kg cooking gas cylinder of N4,634.39, N4,592.11 and N4,568.18, respectively.

States with the lowest average price for refilling of a 12.5kg cooking gas cylinder were Kano (N3,680.00), Oyo (N3,687.50) and Kaduna (N3,754.29).

The NBS report also outlined that the
average price per litre paid by consumers for Kerosene increased by 0.44 per cent month-on-month and by 6.17 per cent year-on-year to N335.54 in July 2020 from N334.08 in June 2020.

“States with the highest average price per litre of kerosene were Taraba (N389.58), Sokoto (N386.60) and Edo (N384.52), while states with the lowest average price per litre of kerosene were Bayelsa (N250.95), Rivers (N270.82) and Zamfara (N277.27),” the report added.
