The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad
Babandede, has said that forensic tool and the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS), if adequately deployed, will help to reduce reported cases of lost and stolen documents, forgery and cases related to identity theft.

The NIS boss made this known during the visit of an independent assessment team comprising, Rajeem Aremu and Ukaigwu Lilian, to the Nigeria
Immigration Service headquarters, Abuja.

Babandede, in a statement on Tuesday by NIS Public Relations Officer, Sunday James, said forensic tool and APIS will greatly aid the tracking of reported cases before re-issue or replacement of a lost or stolen national passport.

The APIS, according to him, provides information to the receiving country before the embarkment of passengers from the country of origin or transit, while i-24/7 helps in tracking lost and stolen documents.

He added that the forensic tool is used to query real-time passport and visa issuance with the aim of ascertaining the officer at the issuing station and the documents supplied for the process and
whether approved or rejected.

According to the comptroller general of immigration, migration information data analysis deployed to airports also serves the purpose of data collection by capturing the finger prints and facial of the passenger being cleared.

Babandede said the Command and Control Centre at the NIS
Headquarters, Abuja, provides real-time on-the-sport view of Control
Posts connected to it.

He further stated that this means, all
activities of offices at control posts, can be viewed real-time from the Service Headquarters when connected.

The statement said the two man ministerial initiative guidelines for validation of projects committee were taken round for visual assessment of the various tools deployed for monitoring and control of human mobility into Nigeria.

The team assessed NIS Command and Control Centre, INTERPOL i-24/7 facility, MIDAS facilities and Airport Passengers Clearance, as well as Automation of Visa on Arrival and Temporary Work Permit.

The statement further reads, “As part of the preparation for the ministerial performance retreat, independent assessment of ministerial performance is being initiated by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Cabinet office.

“The independent assessment includes verification by visual observation of some of the performance of the ministries, agencies and departments.

“The aim of the exercise is to obtain evidence on what ministries have accomplished or are in progress.

“The team which had Mr. Rajeem Aremu and Ukaigwu Lilian visited the NIS headquarters, Abuja and were taken round for visual assessment of the various tools deployed for monitoring and control of human mobility into Nigeria.
