Kaduna Electric Reverts To Old Tariff

Following the directives from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission that all the power distribution companies revert to the old tariff for two weeks, the Kaduna Electric announced its implementation of the order with the switch to the old electricity tariff in place as at August 31st.

Head of Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, in a statement issued in Kaduna said the old tariff is now effective across its franchise network.

NERC’s directive was sequel to the agreement between the federal government and the Labour unions that the Discos revert to the old tariff for two weeks.

The which was a condition for the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to suspend the nationwide industrial strike scheduled to start Monday 28th September

The 11 Discos across the nation introduced a new Service Based Tariff which came into effect on September 1st and which was greeted by uproar from Nigerians

It stated that “Following the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to Distribution Companies to suspend the new Service Based Tariff and revert to the old tariff as at August 31, 2020, the Management of Kaduna Electric wishes to inform its customers and the general public that it has fully complied with the directive.

With the return to the old tariff, Abdulahi said: “Pre-paid customers who purchase electricity tokens from today will therefore see the value of the old tariff reflected in their tokens while post-paid customers will also see the old tariff reflected on their next bill”.

The company’s spokesman in his remarks said “we hope the technical committee set up to look into how the service-based tariff was arrived at will conclude its assignment on schedule and allow for the new tariff to be implemented.

Abdulahi expressed hope that the new tariff will help the organisation enhances its service to customers, improves liquidity, and drive investments in the sector.
