Finance Ministry Votes N179.2m For Generators’ Maintenance, Fueling in 2021
.......State House, SGF, HOCSF, 8 Others To Spend N460m On Generators' Fueling, Maintenance
The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning has voted the sum of N179,232,388 for the maintenance and fueling of its generators in 2021.
The details of the ministry’s allocation for its generators are contained in the 2021 Budget presented last Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly.
The Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, according to the details of the 2021 Budget obtained by InsideBusiness.ng, voted N95,860,026 for maintenance of its generators and N83,372,362 for fueling of the generators.
InsideBusiness.ng further gathered that the State House, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), and eight others are to spend N460,011,935 on maintenance and fueling of their generators.
The others are the Defence Headquarters; Federal Ministries of Defence; Works and Housing; Foreign Affairs; Interior; Education; Transportation, and Health.
The State House proposed N50,964,299 for the fueling and maintenance of its generators in 2021. The figure is made up of N45,678,552 generator fuel cost and N5,285,747 maintenance of the generator.
InsideBusiness.ng recalls that the State House had also budgeted for each year of 2019 and 2020 the sum of N5.2 million for maintenance of generators and N45.6 million for generator fuel cost.
The Office of the HCSF budgeted N37,998,136 for maintenance of its generators and N34,992,678 for fueling of generators in 2021, as against its 2020 Budget proposals of N27 million for maintenance of its generators and N255 million for fueling the generators.
The Office of the SGF proposes to spend N60,435,502 on generators’ fueling and N8,660,656 on the maintenance of the generators in 2021.
The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing plans to spend N26,595,363 on the maintenance of its generators and N16,292,143 on fueling of the generators, while the Ministry of Defence included in its budget the sum of N37,356,052 for generators fuel cost and N12,816,936 for their maintenance.
The following federal ministries also included maintenance and fueling of generator in their budgets – Education (N44,841,507), Foreign Affairs (N44,162,560), Interior (N33,637,265), Transportation (N17,540,000) and Health (N14,411,387).
The Ministry of Power, however, has zero budget for maintenance and fueling of generators.
The Ministry of Power, Works, and Housing had budgeted N92 million in its 2019 Budget for the purchase, maintenance and fuelling of generators/plants.
The breakdown of the figure showed that N26.6 million was proposed for the maintenance of plants/generators, with generator fuel cost estimated at N16.3 million. The ministry also proposed N50 million for the purchase of generators.
Nigeria currently generates an average of over 5,000 megawatts of electricity, amidst lingering conflicts among players and regulators in the industry.
The distribution ranges between 3,500 megawatts and 4,500 megawatts
