The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, may on Wednesday ask the 36 State Governors to set up a five-man Panel of Enquiry to investigate allegations of human rights abuses and violation against the citizens by personnel of the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave this indication during a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday where he presented the five-point demands by Lagos EndSARS protesters to the president.

The governor had also met with the IGP at the Force Headquarters in Abuja to present the demands by the protesters.

The setting up of a panel of enquiry, police reforms and establishment of a Trust Fund for victims of police brutality are among the five-point demands by the protesters.

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) also on Tuesday confirmed that the 36 State Governors would hold a teleconference with the IGP on the security situation in the country.

The meeting is expected to dwell on the nationwide Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) protests and the demands by the protesters.

The Head, Media And Public Affairs, NGF, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, said the Police IG would be joining the NGF 19th teleconference meeting to explain the security situation.

The teleconference meeting will commence by 2pm on Wednesday.

Bello-Barkindo said that the governors would also be briefed by the technical committee on electricity tariffs.

“The Ministers of Works and Housing, Communications and Digital Economy and Humanitarian Services and Disaster Management will also be on hand to address the governors, one after the other.

“The Humanitarian Resources and Disaster Management Minister, Umar Farouk, will be discussing how to lift a hundred million Nigerians out of poverty with the governors.”

Other matters to be discussed at the meeting according Bello-barkindo include the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) Summit scheduled for the last quarter of the year and the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF).

He added that the governors would also discuss the conclusions of the distribution of palliatives by the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) a conglomeration of banks and some pubic spirited philanthropists including Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

Bello-Barkindo added that the governors would also get an update on the World Bank-assisted States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability programme (SFTAS) for results.
