Deposit Insurers Hail NDIC Over ACDI’s Establishment
The International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) has commended Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) over its establishment of the African Center for Deposit Insurance (ACDI).
IADI Secretary-General, Mr. David Walker, gave the commendation during the Annual General Meeting of the association’s Africa Regional Committee presided over by the ARC Chairperson and NDIC MD/CEO, Umaru Ibrahim.
The ACDI, which is domicile in the NDIC Academy, Abuja, will provide training and enhance the capacity of the staff of member-countries in the continent.
IADI noted that the Centre would commence online programmes in 2021 as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.
The IADI also commended the proposed ARC publication which is designed to document the experiences and challenges of Deposit Insurance System (DIS) in Africa.
The insurers agreed on the setting up of a Committee made up of Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Morocco to coordinate the collation of information from member-countries to be used in the compilation of the publication.
The MD/CEO of NDIC, Umaru Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the IADI Secretary-General for the continuous support received by the ARC.
He also commended the member-countries for their support during his three years tenure as the ARC Chairperson and called for continuous collaboration to drive the growth of deposit insurance in Africa.
The meeting which was held online had representatives of nine member-countries of ARC (Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe) as well as the IADI Secretary-General and Mr. Keehyun Park of the IADI Secretariat Basel, Switzerland.
