For trafficking computer laptops to an internet fraudster, Hope Olusegun Aroke who is serving 24 years jail-term at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri Lagos, the Controller of the Kiriikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Oluwaniyi Emmanuel and six other officers have been dismissed. by the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) in one of the series of actions to instil discipline in the Service.

Oluwaniyi who is a Deputy Controller of Correction (DCC) with serial number 29521, together with the Head of the Medical Facility at the Kirikiri centre, DCC Hemeson Edwin with Serial No 46335 ended their long years of service in the NCoS on a sad note and may probably face prosecution from the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

Others are ASCI Abdullahi Muktar with Serial No 61236, ASCI Ogunmodimu Pius with Serial No 35578, PIC1 Balogun Shamsudeen with Serial No 56771, SIC Seriki Azeez with Serial No 56756 and SIC Arojojoye Adegoke.

The Seven officers, insidebusiness.ng was told acted in defiance of the warning of the Controller General of Corrections, Ja’afaru Ahmed, who in his inaugural speech in 2016, listed discipline of officers and men as one of his cardinal objectives. According to Ja’afaru, the reactivation of discipline is necessary to ensure every personnel are seen performing their functions as expected

The dismissal which was conveyed by the Controller of Corrections in Discipline, I.N Idris, was the climax of the investigation that started last year by both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the NCoS.

Discipline in the public service has for some time now been a subject of concern among observers both within and outside the country. The Public Service is seen by many as being undisciplined and corrupt. Government activities are carried out with the lowest ebb as if there are no rules and regulations guiding the conduct of public servants.

It would be recalled that the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board CDCFIB in November 2019 approved the suspension of three officers and six other ranks of the Nigerian Correctional Service implicated in the alleged internet fraud, suspected to have been perpetrated by Hope Olusegun Aroke, an inmate serving a term of imprisonment in Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Lagos.
Equally, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prior to their suspension by the NCoS, announced the arrest of Emmanuel Oluwaniyi and Hemeson Edwin for allegedly giving exaggerated medical reports that warranted a convicted internet fraudster, Mr Aroke, who is serving a 24-year jail term, being given a referral to be treated outside the facility.

Despite being behind bars, Olusegun Aroke was attending parties outside the custodial centre and hosting guests at different hotels. He also operated bank accounts and was able to pull a scam to the tune of $1m, according to the EFCC.
