It was pandemonium as soldiers and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps fled as residents of the Ilupeju area of Isokan community at Iyana Cele in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State seized two operational vehicles of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company in protest for the disconnection of the town from the power supply

Officials of the power firm also scampered for safety from the rampaging youths who impounded two of the three vehicles brought there after the disconnection.

The community is said to have insisted on holding on to the seized vehicles until electricity supply is restored

Members of the community were said to have gathered for a meeting on how to resolve the power problem there. But as the meeting was going on, the IBEDC officials, six soldiers and four members of the NSCDC reportedly arrived in three vehicles and went straight to disconnect the electricity supply to the community.

This was said to have angered the youths who rushed to where the iBEDC officials were.

The community was said to have experienced a power outage before the incident. There were claims that some parts of the community had not enjoyed electricity supply at all for many weeks.

Some members of the community claimed that the DISCO collected N2m from a manufacturing company and had been diverting electricity supply meant for the community to the company.

They also claimed that
some prominent members of their community were given generators by the electricity company and some money so that they would not speak against them.

It was gathered that the police had deployed their men to the community but the youths in the community said they would not release the vehicles unless they were reconnected for power supply.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Mr Abimbola Opeyemi, said the police were not aware of the incident.
