Appetite For Stocks Lifts Market By N390bn

The positive appetite for stocks continued with the equities market sustaining its bullish trend, as both the market capitalisation and all share Index (ASI) jumped astronomical Thursday.

The ASI rose by 2.10 per cent to close at 36,239.62 basic point Thursday, from the 35,493.15 basic point it posted the previous day.

Also, the market capitalisation grew by 2.10 per cent or N390bn to close at N18. 940 trillion compared to N18. 550 trillion it posted Wednesday.

The appreciation of the market was impacted by growth in highly capitalized equities, amongst which are; Airtel Africa, Unilever, Ardova Plc, Okomu Oil and Dangote Cement.

The swoop on stocks saw the market turnover decreased in volume, as investors traded in 343.636 million shares worth
N4.349 billion in 3,895 deals compared to 650.549 million shares worth N2. 287 billion in 3,952 deals traded Wednesday.

The market breadth was positive, with 39 gainers and 17 losers, as against the 39 gainers and 12 losers the previous day.

The biggest losers’ chart was led in percentage ramifications by FCMB group, with a 4.67 per cent lose to close at N2. 86 per share.

Flour Mills dipped by 1.89 per cent to close at N26 per share, while UAC Nigeria fell by 1.33 per cent to close at N7.4 per share.

Also, Guaranty Trust Bank depreciated by 0.59 per cent to close at N33.75 per share, while Lafarge Africa declined by 0.45 per cent to close at N21.9 per share.

Conversely, the gainers’ chart was dominated by in percentage terms by Airtel African, gaining 10 per cent to close at N774. 4 per share.

In the same vein, Ardova Plc and Unilever appreciated by 9.96 and 9.54 per cent to close at N13.25 and 14.35 per share respectively.

Also, Okomu Oil surged by 3.41 per cent to close at N91 per share, while Dangote rose by 2. 56 per cent to close at N200 per share..

FBN Holdings dominated the activity chart of the market in terms of volume by trading 99.387 million shares worth N700.449 million. While Sky Way Aviation sold 24.000 million worth of shares atN64.020 million.

UBA Group came next with 22.311 million shares worth N187.375 million, while Acess Bank sold 20. 870 million shares worthN174.161. Also, Zenith Bank traded 15.765 million worth of sharesN388.713 million.
