Dangote, MTN, Nestle, Two Others Account For 36.9% Of Nigerian Stock Market
Five listed equities on the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) namely, Dangote Cement, MTN Nigeria Communication, Airtel Africa Telecommunication, BUA Cement and Nestle Nigeria Plc are the five most capitalised firms and accounting for 36.9 per cent of the Nigerian bourse.
As at 10th January 2021, the NSE capitalisation was N38.7 trillion and these five brands are responsible for N14.3 trillion representing 36.9 per cent of the total market capitalisation.
An expanded list of these equities shows that GTB Plc, Zenith Bank, StanbicIBTC, Nigeria Breweries and Lafarge complete the number of top ten most capitalised stocks on the NSE. The top ten equities are from industrial goods sector which has Dangote Cement, BUA Cement and Lafarge Africa, while GTB, Zenith Bank and Stanbic IBTC are from the financial services sector, MTN and Airtel from the ICT/Telecommunications and Nestle and Nigerian Breweries from the Consumer goods sector.
The sector by sector analysis of the capital base of the top ten equities shows that Industrial Goods segment tops with N6.90 trillion, representing 17.83 per cent, while ICT/Communication closely followed with N6.56 trillion, representing 16.9 per cent. The Banking sector came next with N2.29 trillion capitalisation, representing 5.9 per cent and the
Consumer food sector stands at N1.65 trillion, which represents 4.3 per cent.
Dangote Cement Plc which shares currently go for N24.9 per dominated the market capitalization table at N3.83trillion, with a 9.90 per cent of the market share.
MTN Nigeria Communication trails at the second position with a share price of N165.2 kobo has N3.36 trillion capitalisation representing 8.7 per cent of the total market capital base.
Airtel Africa Telecommunication with a share price of N851.80, N3. 2 trillion capitalisations representing 8.3 per cent of the total market.
BUA Cement Plc and Nestle Nigeria Plc have N2. 7 trillion and N1.19 trillion, representing 7 per cent and 3.1 per cent respectively to conclude the top five most capitalised brands on the capital market. The share prices of BUA Cement and Nestle currently stand N80 and N1.505 respectively.
The top ten most Capitalized companies which had a combined capital of N17.35 till lion, representing 44.85 per cent had Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Nigerian Breweries and Lafarge Africa on the list.
The top five are trailed by another set of five equities including Guaranty Trust Bank; N971.2 billion, Zenith Bank; N805. 3 billion, Stanbic IBTC Bank; N488.6 billion, Nigerian Breweries Plc; N463.8 billion and Lafarge Africa; N359.2 billion.
Aside from being the two most capitalised equities, Dangote Cement and MTN Nigeria are also on the Premium Board of the NSE together with Acess Bank, FBN Holdings, UBA Group, Seplat Petroleum, Lafarge Africa and Zenith Bank Plc.
