Equities Market Sustains Growth By N16bn

Trading on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) was positive Monday trajectory as the equities market benchmark, the All Share Index (ASI) rose by 0.08 per cent or 30.56 basic point to close at 40,150.78 basis points from 40,120.22 of last Friday. .

The market capitalisation also appreciated, leaping by 0.08 per cent or N16bn to close at N20.994 trillion compared to N20.978 trillion on Friday.

The marginal growth of the market was influenced by the rise in the stocks of Flour Mills, Prescoe, Ardova Plc, Berger Paints and Okomu oil.

Also, the market turnover increased by 0.7 per cent as investors bought and sold 335.699 million worth of shares at N2.489 billion in 5,338 deals, as against the 333.311 million shares worth N3.648 billion in 5,142 deals traded on Friday.

The market breadth came out positive with 32 gainers compared to 23 losers on the main board of the NSE.

The biggest losers were BIC Gas, Cutix Plc, Caverton offshore, Guaranty Trust Bank and United Capital Plc.

Cutix led the losers in percentage terms by shedding 10 per cent to close at N12.16 per share, while BOC Gas closely followed when it dipped by 9.96 per cent to close at N11. 39 per share
.
Also, Caverton Offshore fell by 7.07 per cent to close at N1. 84 per share, while United Capital and GTB depreciated by 3.49 and 0.45 per cent to close at N4. 83 and N32.85 per share respectively.

Conversely, Ardova Plc and Berger Paints led the gainers in percentage parameters, surging by 9.79 and 9.52 per cent to close at N17. 95 and N8. 05 per share respectively.

In the same trajectory, Flour Mills gained 2.81 per cent to close at N27.45 per share, while
Prescoe leapt by 1.41 per cent to close at N72 per share m. Also, Okomu Oil appreciated 0.54 per cent to close at N93 per share.

The market activity chart was led in volume ramifications by Mutual Benefits Assurance when it traded
104.162 million shares worth N31.036 million, while AXA Mansard sold 26.342 million shares worth N30.435 million.

Lafarge Africa followed with 14.383 million shares worth N320.536 million, while Fidelity Bank sold 13. 381 million shares worth N36.058 million. Also, Zenith Bank traded 13. 360 million worth of shares at N344.698 million.
