Resistance Grows Against Fani-Kayode Alleged Return Plan To APC
Resistance from party faithfuls is the stumbling block to the rumoured return of the former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Personal Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad and the Director-General of the Progressives Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman, have swollen the ranks of those who rose not to admit the former Aviation Minister back to the party.
They said Fani-Kayode would not be welcomed back into the ruling party if he chooses to make a U-turn.
Ahmad tweeted: “If he decides to join the governing party, I don’t think he will be welcomed by the majority of the party members whom he made it a duty to attack and insult for several years.”
Ahmad’s comment is coming at a time APC governors are vehemently opposing the former aviation minister saying he won’t be accepted back into the party.
Information pointing at the possibility of Fani-Kayode dumping the PDP for the APC emerged yesterday after he met with major stakeholders of the party in Abuja.
Fani-Kayode who is a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had met with the APC acting National Chairman, Mala Mai Buni and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State. Pictures of the meeting between the trio of Buni, Bello and Fani-Kayode had emerged suggesting a fresh romance with the ruling party.
However, explaining why he had a meeting with the APC chieftains, the ex-minister who is a staunch knocker of the ruling party had said the meeting was purely on how to move Nigeria to the nest level.
The PDP chieftain also noted that Nigerians must set aside their differences because the country was heading towards a civil war which must be averted.
Also reacting to the possibility of Fani-Kayode returning to the APC, the Director-General of the Progressives Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman, warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to admit the ex-minister into the party.
“Do we want to reduce our party into one in which everybody is welcomed? Can we for instance in any way contemplate having an Nnamdi Kanu or Abubakar Shekau as a member?
“At this rate, Nigerians will just wake and see some of our leaders presenting Mr. Fani-Kayode to President Buhari as a new member of our party.
“Although, we can confidently argue that President Buhari will not approve such deranged possibility, it is important to caution that such consideration will be stretching the trust of party members beyond acceptable limits,” the statement read.
