FG Appoints Odigie-Oyegun, Four Others In Universities’ New Councils
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) John Odigie-Oyegun, has been appointed the new chairman of the University of Ibadan Governing Council by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Oyegun, a former governor of the Old Bendel State was appointed alongside Masud Kazaure, Comrade Abba Yaro, Abubakar Maikafi and Emeka Nwagbo as new members of the governing Council of the institution.
University of Ibadan is one out of the five federal institution that have witnessed a wind of change in their Governing Councils.
Arc. Sunny S.T. Ochono, the Permanent Secretary of the Minister of Education, disclosed the dissolution of the Governing Councils at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, and the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State.
Sen. Andrew Uchendu was appointed the new Chairman of the University of Port Harcourt, alongside Mr. Kolo Uzamat, Commodore D.T. Hinga, Mohammed Musa Maikarfi, and Barr. Ahmed Al Mustapha members of the Governing Council.
For the University of Lagos that was enmeshed in crisis months back, leading to the removal of former Minister, Wale Babalakin as the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Dr. Lanre Tejuosho has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Council.
Members of the Governing Council are Dr. Aminu Ahmed, Dr. Uro Gardner, Chief Chinedu Adendi and Comrade Mustapha Salihu.
Obafemi Awolowo University also witnessed changes in its Governing Council, as Chief Oscar Udoji has been appointed as the new Chairman, with Captain. Bala Jibrin, Hon. Eugene Odo, Dr. Lateef Babata and Alh. Saidu Bako as members.
The Nigeria Maritime University wasn’t left in the rejigging, as Dr. Elias Eddi Courson has been appointed as the new Chairman of its Governing Council, with Hon. Nelson Alapa, Hon. Victor Giadono, Alh. Bello Dukku and Mr. Godwin Ananghe as members.
The new Chairman and members of the Governing Council of the Five institutions will be inaugurated on Monday 19th April, 2021, by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu in Abuja, the Nation’s Capital.
Vice-Chancellors of the Five institutions have been mandated to be present at the inauguration of the new Governing Councils Chairman and members.
