Inter Milan Ends Juventus Nine Years Dominance, Wins Italian Serie A Scudeto
It is a dream come for true for Internazionale De Milan Football Club and Coach Antonio Conte.
No one ever gave the Milan Club a chance to win the Italian League title, but, the resilience, consistency and determination of the young and vibrant Inter Milan team paid off.
Having narrowly conceded the Italian title to Juventus Football Club by a point last season, Inter Milan, with four games to spear have won the coveted Italian Football League following the 1-1 draw between second placed Atalanta Football Club and Sassuolo Football Club, to end the nime years dominance of Juventus.
The draw saw Inter Milan have an unassailable 13-point cushion; putting an end to the club’s 10-year trophy drought and Juventus’ nine-year Scudetto winning cycle, which he started back then as the boss of the former.
Conte’s side put one hand on the trophy with a 2-0 win against Crotone on Saturday, courtesy of Christian Eriksen and Achraf Hakimi goals.
Juventus winning cycle which was kick-started by Conte himself in 2012 and continued by Max Allegri and Maurizio Sarri last term has seen the Biaconneri as Juventus Football Club is called as the ‘King of Italian Football’.
Inter Milan has however tasted defeat twice this season – two 2-1 losses in the Milan derby in October and at Sampdoria in January, the latter followed by an ongoing 18-game unbeaten run which saw them collect 14 wins, 11 of them in a row.
Conte’s side snatched top spot from AC Milan on February 14 and have held it ever since, with a 3-0 triumph over their cross-city rivals in February making them the runaway leaders during the business end of the season.
Juventus were expected to compete for the title yet again but endured a torrid season under Andrea Pirlo, with their spot in next season’s Champions League still hanging in the balance.
Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan looked like the closest contenders and were top of the table at Christmas, but they failed to keep up with their spectacular early-season form and have now also slipped into a top four dog-fight.
Inter Milan’s vice-president Javier Zanetti celebrated with supporters at the city’s Piazza del Duomo after the Nerazzurri won their first Serie A title in 11 years.
This is Inter’s 19th Scudetto overall, meaning they have overtaken city rivals AC Milan on 18 to become the second-most successful club in Serie A history behind Juventus with 36 title.
