FG To Shut Offices Tuesday To Mobilise Support For Super Eagles Against Ghana
The Federal Government has directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to shut down from 1pm on Tuesday to mobilize support for the Super Eagles in the second leg of the Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in Abuja.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are billed to engage the Black Stars of Ghana in a winner takes all encounter on Tuesday to represent Africa at the FIFA World cup in Qatar.
The Nigerian senior national team had last week held Ghana to a scoreless draw during the first leg in Kumasi, which has made the second leg a must win for the Super Eagles, while the Ghanaians can qualify ahead of Nigeria with a score draw based on the away goal rule.
However, in a bid to fill the 60,000 capacity stadium in Abuja, the federal government has asked all civil servants to close early for work at 1.00pm on Tuesday, to support the Super Eagles in the match billed for 6pm.
In a circular with Ref No HCSF/3065/Vol. 1/146 signed Monday by Ngozi Onwudiwee, Permanent Secretary (Service Welfare Office)on behalf of Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, said there is a need to mobilise support for the Nigerian Team.
According to the circular addressed to All Permanent Secretaries, it urged the federal government officials to give the circular wide publicity to achieve the desired result.
“As you are aware, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be meeting theBlack Stars of Ghana in continuation of the 2022 FIFA World-Cup Qualifier, Playoff, (Return Leg). There is a need to mobilise support for the Nigerian Team.Consequently, I am directed to inform you that all offices will be closed at 1.00pm on Tuesday, 29th March, 2022,” the circular stated.
“Permanent Secretaries are requested to give this circular widepublicity to achieve the desired result,” it added.
This move may not be unconnected with the fact the the Ghanaian national team enjoyed a thunderous support during the first led against Nigeria as over 70,000 football fans reportedly filled the 40, 000 capacity stadium in Kumasi.
