Search Ongoing For Boko Haram Suspects, Others Missing From Kuje Prison – Minister
The Nigerian defences minister, Bashir Magashi has said the search is still ongoing for all inmates that escaped from Kuje Prison on Tuesday night.
The Kuje facility was attacked Tuesday night during which all 64 Boko Haram suspects and others totalling 600 escaped from the facility.
Shuaib Belgore, the permanent secretary of, ministry of interior, said the assailant came to the prison ‘very prepared ‘ and they bombarded the place in large numbers with explosives.
The Thecameence minister said the attackers are Boko Haram insurgents and their attack helped them free 64 of its members that were reprimanded in the prison.
“What happened, they came in their numbers and released some of the inmates. We are now trying to set the inmates they released,” he said.
“We are trying to see what we can do to see that all escapees within the prison accommodation are brought back to the prison yard.
“About 994 inmates, we have about 600 already inside now. accommodation is being recaptured. The people who came to do this from the records belong to a particular group, from all indicators they are Boko Haram.
“Presently, we could not locate any of them. Currently, they are about 64 of them as inmates and we could not locate them,”
