ACAMB Wants Banking, OPS Issues Resolved For Economy Benefits
The stage is set for a convergence of operators in both banking and the Organised Private Sectors (OPS) to iron out misgivings to foster the development of the Nigerian economy.
The summit is at the instance of the Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB) and it is to proffer lasting solutions to the constant discord between the two sectors,
Themed, ‘Promoting Synergy between the Banking Industry and the Organised Private Sector’, President of ACAMB, Rasheed Bolarinwa, said the Nigerian economy would be the major beneficiary as far-reaching strategies would unfold.
ACAMB is the banking industry corporate communications and reputation management group, and the conference intends to bring together, the best players on both sides to act as a think tank for the nation’s macroeconomic growth.
The OPS is a valued stakeholder in the banking industry and the two play major roles in growing the economy.
Bolarinwa noting the need for the two sectors to work closely said, an excellent mutual relationship between the banking industry and the OPS will promote the desired sustainable growth and development of the national economy. This will in turn enable both groups to compete effectively in the regional and international markets.
The maiden ACAMB conference will hold on Wednesday, August 3, and will have the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, Presidents of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) as participants.
Also, the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), National Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI), Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) and other bodies will join in the strategic panel discussion.
The ACAMP president also said the conference would correct perceived misunderstandings between the two sectors, and proffer common grounds that would foster understanding and progress.
“The conference offers a unique platform for private sector players and the banking community to share perspectives on how the synergy, communication, cooperation and mutual understanding between these two critical segments of the Nigerian economy can be improved to benefit the Nigerian people and economy progressively,” Bolarinwa said.
At the end of the session, “We expect a robust communique that will provide a roadmap for a new relationship between the banking and OPS.
ACAMB will persist in generating innovation and creative initiatives to promote the growth and development of the banking industry and national economy.
The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Seye Awojobi, said the conference promotes synergy as banking and OPS are critical to the nation’s economy.
“So, the main goal is to bring the two sectors together for the benefit of the economy. Anything short of that will mean we are not addressing the issues.
“It is this understanding that this conference is going to promote. Take it from the point of information, education, execution, implementation, advocacy and policy enunciation, all will come together and that is why the CBN will lead the conversation,” Awojobi added.
On his part, the 1st Vice President, ACAMB, Oze K. Oze, said the conference would allow spelling out what the perceived misunderstandings are between two sectors.
He said, “When we come to the conference hall, everybody will be able to bare their mind. We will be able to address whatever issues there are.
“What we are doing is actually to create an inclusive environment for everyone so that we can look at the issues that are germane for the development of the national economy. And our ultimate objective is to be able to drive growth and development in the economy.”
Also, ACAMB’s ex-President, Eddy Ademosu, pointed out that the OPS should be a critical partner with the banking sector in the development of the economy.
But over the years the two sectors have not had a meeting point, he added, “There should be a nexus and meeting point. That is the basis for which ACAMB is organising the conference. The key beneficiary is the economy.”
