President Muhammadu Buhari has transmitted several executive bills to the Senate, including one seeking to legalize and institutionalize the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).

There are also plans to create 10 new national parks across the country, which the president sought approval for.

The requests were made in separate letters to Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President, and read at Tuesday’s plenary session.

He said the consideration and passage of the NSIP bill would provide the enabling law for the effective implementation of the programme geared towards poverty alleviation for vulnerable Nigerians.

On national parks, Buhari sought the concurrence of the Senate on the National Park Declaration Order made early in the year for the establishment of 10 new national parks across the country.

He also sought consideration and passage of the National Library Establishment Bill and the Federal Produce Inspection Service Bill.

He said the National Library Establishment bill, when passed into law, would provide the legal framework for maintenance of National Library of Nigeria in line with global practices.
