Deputy Comptroller Kolapo Oladeji, Coordinator of the CG’s strike force headquarters, told newsmen the items were illegally imported into the country. The items are in violation of rules and procedures, he said.

According to him, “One of the rules of importation into Nigeria is that any item imported must be written in English language, but the goods seized were written in Chinese language and it contravenes import rules in line with Section 146 Paragraph E of SEMA 2004 CAP 45 Law of Nigeria.”

“he goods were intercepted along Abaji-Lokoja highway and it includes 4,289 cartons of Chinese drinks, 204 gallons of sauce, Spaghetti, Semovita, flour among others,” he said.

DC Oladeji added that the Strike Force team also seized 2,300 pieces of used tyres along Mokwa road in Niger state.

He said preliminary investigations are ongoing on how the goods came into the country and found their way out of the ports, adding that necessary action will be taken after the investigations.

He noted that the team had advanced its operations using technology to boost intelligence gathering while urging legitimate importers to ensure they follow relevant rules while going about their business.
