There was a low turnout in parts of Lagos yesterday when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the distribution of permanent voter’s cards (PVC) to voters ahead of the 2023 election.
Daily Trust reports that INEC has set aside December 12th to 22nd for the collection of PVCs by voters at the local government level.
The flag-off of the collection yesterday was trailed by a low turnout of people in some of the local governments visited.
And in some local governments, many people that turned up to pick up their PVCs expressed disappointment that their cards were not available.
At Agege Local Government, our correspondent reports that most people that came couldn’t get their PVC and they were asked to come back next week.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appealed to the residents of the state, who are of voting age to pick up their PVCs from the various INEC offices in their localities.
He made the appeal when he stopped by the INEC office in the Sura area of Lagos Island Local Government Area to pick up his reprinted PVC alongside the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and some of his cabinet members.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a few months ago redesignated his location and updated his details, having moved his polling unit from Ikoyi to Lagos Island, ahead of next year’s governorship election.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that Lagos residents would re-elect him based on his administration’s performance during the first term.
