The federal government is considering a single salary scale that will be performance-based for its workers in ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, has said.

At a virtual interactive session with a cross-section of civil servants across various MDAs, Yemi-Esan also hinted that civil servants would enjoy “better days,” after the removal of the subsidy on petrol.

Yemi-Esan in a statement by the Director of Press, Muhammed Ahmed, highlighted the government’s plans to improve the welfare of workers worsened by the present excruciating economic conditions, such as the introduction of a single salary scale for workers in ministries, extra-ministerial departments, and agencies, which she said will be tied to productivity not profession; allowances, palliatives, and subsidised transportation to cushion the effects, in the next few weeks.

The Head of Service further emphasised the issue of promotion arrears and the timely release of letters of promotion to avoid accumulated years of promotion allowance. He also insists that yearly promotion processes should start and end within the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning. She also urged MDAs to submit their requests for promotion arrears on time, to enable the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to forward the same.

During the interactive session which one of the objectives was to get feedback from the civil servants on the ongoing transformation of the service, Yemi-Esan also highlighted a number of impactful initiatives as captured under the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 (FCSSIP 25).
