ICAN New Registrar, Olasunkanmi Assumes Office

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has appointed Musibau Lanre Olasunkanmi as its new Registrar/Chief Executive.

He assumed the role on February 1, 2024, succeeding Mukaila Lawal, the Acting Registrar/Chief Executive, who retires on March 1, 2024.

His appointment came after the approval of his selection by the Governing Council of the Institute at its December 15, 2023 meeting.

This decision underscores ICAN’s unwavering commitment to nurturing an exceptional leadership team and guiding the institute toward a future marked by sustained growth and influence.

Olasunkanmi brings over 16 years of professional experience spanning various functional areas and leadership positions in both the private and public sectors.

He has an extensive background in diverse areas of accounting and his occupancy of various strategic leadership positions affirms his capability to significantly contribute to elevating ICAN’s global standing as one of the foremost professional accounting organisations.

Olasunkanmi holds a Ph.D. in Forensic Accounting & Audit from Charisma University, Turks and Caicos Island, UK; M.Sc. in Accounting from Afe Babalola University; MBA from the University of Lagos; B.Sc. in Accounting from Adekunle Ajasin University; and HND in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.

A Fellow of ICAN and the Association of Corporate Governance of Nigeria, he also holds membership in the Association of Business Recovery & Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN), the Association of Forensic Accounting Researchers, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, USA.

As the new Registrar/Chief Executive, Olasunkanmi, will collaborate with a nimble secretariat team and forward-looking Governing Council to advance ICAN’s strategic vision, foster industry collaboration, and uphold the Institute’s commitment to excellence.
