The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Friday issued 13 Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to 13 manufacturing firms in Anambra for 25 products.
Mrs Nwaoma Olujie, the Coordinator of SON in Anambra, who presented the certificates to the companies in Awka, commended them for working to attain the approved minimum standards in their production.
She said that standards were the common denominator in the market today, adding that companies wishing to succeed in the global market must strive to attain SON standards.
Olujie said SON MANCAP certificate increased sale prospect of products because of the quality assurance it bestowed on them.
She said that the certificate also qualified products for competitiveness in the international market.
Olujie urged firms in Anambra to subject their operations to SON standardisation process and also apply to Bank of Industries for funding for expansion.
Mr Chisom Nwangwu, the Managing Director of Sebrud Consortium, a prepaid meter manufacturing firm, said that the certification was an endorsement for their efforts in the industry.
Nwangwu expressed happiness for the certificate, whose journey commenced in 2014, adding that it would increase consumer confidence in local products.
Mr Ebuka Onunkwo, the Chairman of Seahorse Oil and Gas, said that the certification was an indication that local production expertise was on the rise.
He urged SON and other relevant agencies to strengthen regulation on substandard imported products, which he said, was a major challenge to survival of better quality local products. (NAN)
