The Electricity Meters Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (EMMAN) has advised the management of electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) to patronise indigenous meter manufacturers to curb the low quality of the product.
Mr Muideen Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of EMMAN, said in Lagos on Wednesday.
Ibrahim spoke against the backdrop of metering gaps in the country.
According to Ibrahim, local manufacturers have the capacity to produce sufficient meters that can address metering challenges.
Ibrahim advised Discos to guide against low quality meters.
He said that meters manufactured in the country had been tested and proven to be of high qualities, adding that low meter quality would worsen the power sector problems if not checked.
The Executive Secretary said that the shortage of meters was a problem in the industry and that the government should urgently address it.
He said that government agency saddled with inspecting power equipment should discourage people from importing low quality meters into the country.
He said that the inadequate supply of meters in the country was a problem affecting both individuals and industrial users.
Ibrahim urged discos to improve on the supply of meters, noting that this would enable consumers have access electricity as well as give them some respite.
