The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has granted 22 successful firms ‘No Objection’ to participate in the procurement process for provision of meters for electricity consumers in the country.
A statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by Dr Usman Abba-Arabi, NECR’s General Manager, Public Affairs, said the decision was in accordance with Section 8(4) of the 2018 Meter Assets Providers (MAP) Regulations
Abba-Arabi said following NERC’s approval of the MAP regulations, applications were invited from interested investors for ‘No Objection’ from the commission.
He said the MAP regulations were intended to facilitate closure of the wide metering gap in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) within three years.
According to him, the ‘No Objection’ is to qualify intending investors to participate in the meter procurement process in NESI.
“The regulation mandates Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOS) to engage meter assets providers who fund purchase, installation and replacement of meters to meet Discos metering obligations to their customers.
“This is to ensure that all electricity customers are metered, thereby, reducing incidences of estimated electricity billing to the barest minimum,” Abba-Arabi explained.
He said the commission, having conducted due diligence on the supporting documents to the applications submitted by interested investors, had granted successful applicants ‘No Objection’ to participate in the procurement process.
He, however, said members of the public and intending investors should please note that the publication of successful applicants did not foreclose other interested applicants from getting the ‘No Objection’ as it was a continuous exercise.
The NERC spokesperson said the successful companies granted the ‘No Objection’ were Huawei Technology Company Nigeria Ltd., Bilview Energy Ltd., Chintech Electro Nigeria Ltd., Holley Metering Ltd., and Meron Nigeria Ltd.
Others were Integrated Power Ltd., MBH Power Ltd., Trimani Engineering Ltd., Sapropel Energy Resources Ltd., Megawatt Distribution International Ltd., Unistar Hi-Tech Systems Ltd., and MOMAS Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company Ltd. among others
