The Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), FCT, says the agency will partner with the Initiative for Excellent and Better Society in Africa (IEBSA), a Civil Society Organisation, to educate motorists on threats of road accidents.

The Director of VIO, Alhaji Wadata Bodinga, said this in a statement signed by Mr Kalu Emetu, the agency’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), on Wednesday in Abuja.

Bodinga commended the organisation for the initiative and noted that the partnership would enhance growth and development in the FCT.

He said that the agency would not hesitate to partner with the organisation as the project was what the Directorate of Roads Traffic Services (DTRS) stood for.

The statement quoted the President of IEBSA, Mr Rauf Sarafadeen, as saying that without the full involvement of the VIO, the enlightenment campaign would not be successful.

According to him, the VIO has all it takes to make the programme a successful one, and that its intervention will drastically reduce road accidents in the territory.

Sarafadeen said that the organisation would organise a road show enlightenment programme, tagged: “RoadPeace’’ scheduled for Aug. 21.

He added that the event would feature banners, stickers, posters, wrist bands among others, which would bear the inscription: “Get Your Vehicle Inspected”, “Do Not Drive When Drunk”.

“Fasten Your Seat Belt”, “Speeding kills”, “Reckless Driving is Dangerous” and “Do Not Overload Your Vehicle”.

“All these messages will be targeted at the commercial and private drivers, the leadership of the Transport Unions and other road users.

“This programme will be the greatest road enlightenment show, ever,’’ he said.
