U.S. information resources are “a millimeter away’’ from violating Russia’s electoral laws, Moscow will inform the U.S. authorities about it, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Andrei Nesterenko said on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, the Russian election, the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) and Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) said that they had sent letters to Google warning against disseminating calls for protests on election day, which is a violation of the Russian legislation.

“Of course, we have a consensus here that the concept of electoral sovereignty is not only a concept, it must be a principle that is respected by all civilised states,’’ Nesterenko told reporters, when asked whether Russia observed any U.S. attempt to interfere in Russian elections.

The diplomat added that Moscow would inform “U.S. partners that actions of their information resources are close to violation of Russian laws,’’ noting that they were only “a millimeter away from violation’’.
