How Nigeria Can Generate Over $50trn Through Security Platforms – Experts

Ibrahim Abubakar, a private security expert on Tuesday said Nigeria can generate over $50 trillion through deployment of security engineering platforms.
Abubakar disclosed this while presenting a paper titled: ‘Security challenges and engineering applications in national development’, during the opening of a two-day conference held at the instance of the House Committee on National Security and Intelligence.
According to him, with the deployment of engineering applications, each of the 774 Local Government Councils has potential to generate $2 billion monthly.
The expert said that Taraba could generate $1.3 trillion annually from the natural resources in the state.
Abubakar who harped on the need for a paradigm shift in the country’s security framework in the bid to tackle the numerous security challenges confronting the nation, underscored the need for enforcement of effective monitoring and surveillance system across the country.
“Nigeria can generate more than $50 trillion from security; 10 times more than what oil and gas can generate.
“If you go to the UK for example, you do not see fenced houses, people pay for security, how many people do you see with armed security agents or escort? None.
“From your vehicle to everything you can think of in life, there is money to be generated,” he said.
According to Abubakar, human intelligence is susceptible to compromise unlike the advanced engineering intelligence available in developing economies.
He stressed that with technology, security officers could sit in the comfort of their offices and detect contents of vehicles, vessels and airplanes.
The expert said that officers did not need to stand on the road or checkpoints to the dissatisfaction of road users.
Abubakar said that there was need to change the security and policy framework of the country to achieve a secured society.
He stressed the need for sensitisation saying that nobody was born a criminal and that leaders must have to carry the people along.
Abubakar said that Nigeria had all it takes to be the largest economy in the world but there was need to address security challenges.
He said that the minimum wage in Switzerland when converted to naira worth N5 million and that Nigeria had what it takes to pay even more.
Speaking earlier, Aminu Jaji, Chairman, House Committee on National Security, explained that the interactive session aimed at fostering effective collaboration among stakeholders.
On his part, P. U Umor who spoke on behalf of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), stressed the need for Federal Government to ensure effective security deployment ahead of the conduct of the 2019 general elections.
In his remarks, Mohammed Adamu, Inspector General of Police who was represented by Bukar Ntasri, Superintendent of Police who advocated for regular training and retraining of security personnel for election duties.
