Ogun Govt Calls for Good Governance

57

Ogun State Government has called on its citizens to strive, work and ensure that good
governance prevails at the grassroots level. This position was canvassed yesterday by
Governor Ibikunle Amosun who was represented by Honourable Francis Gbenga Ademosun,
Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives during the inspection of three
proposed Area Community Development Committees (CDCs) springing up under Baale
Akinosi Area Community Development Committee (ACDC).

According to him, as a process to engender good governance, efforts should be geared
towards using community funds to execute projects that will benefit the grassroots citizens
and ensure development in all facets.

While saying that the ACDCs are very close to the people, he challenged the leadership of
each area committee to lead by example in order to encourage more CDCs to spring up so that development can move closer to the people.

He advised that as one of the levels of government, even though the community leaders are not being remunerated, one of their duties is to assist the government to provide social
amenities because government cannot provide everything that communities need.

He advised that when choosing their leaders, they should guard against imposition,
favouritism and gender inequality by ensuring that everyone is carried along. Earlier, Ogun
State government had said it had trained about 1600 community leaders in citizenship and
leadership courses at the Social Development Institute, Shasha, Iperu, Ogun State.
