President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the issuance of N350 billion promissory note for exporters, as part of efforts geared towards restoring confidence into the business environment.
Segun Awolowo, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) disclosed this during a media chat after the inauguration of NEPC/Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit in Abuja.
Awolowo who put the 2019 export target set by the Commission at 20%, reiterated the present administration’s resolve towards restoring investors confidence and provision of enabling environment for all exporters.
“I’m hoping to do 90%. At the end of the year, all things being equal let’s put the target at 20% increase and that’s going to be really work because in the next one week, Mr. President is going to launch the new export credit certificate and promissory note certificate.
“The promissory note is the indebtedness we carried over as our incentives to exporters.
“The President has graciously approved and we are looking at N350 billion worth of promissory note that will go out to exporters. That will bring back confidence into the system,” he assured.
Speaking earlier on the launch of the NEPC/ACTU, Awolowo expressed optimism that the reconstitution of the ACTU will help in curbing corrupt activities.
“You will all agree with me that corruption poses a serious development challenge in our society. It threatens sustainable administrative and economic development by infringing or undermining formal processes thereby destabilizing public confidence in government affairs.
“Meaningful progress and development can therefore not be achieved if conceded efforts are not taken to curb the scourge of corruption in the public service.
“It is in light of this that I call on the reconstituted chairman and members of the NEPC-ACTU to put all hands on deck and conduct a corruption risk assessment by identifying vulnerable areas that are prone to corruption, proffer appropriate recommendation and also develop integrity plans that would strengthen accountability and transparency towards enhanced service delivery in the Council,” Awolowo urged.
