The long awaited Nigerian reality show kicks off Sunday night at the Podium Lekki Lagos promising another thrills and frills with 21 housemates pitching for the N30 million prize.
Just like the previous episodes, the show will take people especially youngsters from other activities, drawing them to the tube as the keep tabs on the every actions of the housemates, drawing the followers required in notching up points for their progression in the house expected to be full of backbiting, jealousy and different strategies to outwit one another.
This year is expected to generate more followers with ample time to spend on the show as it comes in the summer when holiday makers especially students prepare for the long vacation.
The show, modeled after BB Africa has garnered a commanding share of television viewing market having been consequently for some years now. InsideBusiness goes to town to hear the fans’ expectation from the 2019 edition.
Emmanuel Paul, a young enterprising youth has looked forward to the show and expecting to see more performances from the 21 housemates in this current edition than the previous ones. To him, BBNaija editions of 2012, 2013 were hot and challenging with participants with exceptional characters compared to that of 2018 and 2017.
“We are expecting something new, unusual, pro-active and thrilling. We want to see what we have not seen before’, noted Emmanuel.
” I will want to see a mixture of creativity and dignity laced up with jokes. I look forward to a mind-blowing episode and not just showcasing themselves on the tube. We want to see something exceptional through actions and performance’.
Emmanuel looks forward to excitement like that of when Undertaker was coming out for wrestling with a character that tunes spectators on. “If you watch Americas Got Talent show you will see the creativity in them portrayed through jokes. It is all about showcasing your talent and nothing more”.
Emmanuel commended the organisers for doing a good job in helping youths find their place but, he said ” They should broaden the scope of participation.
There should be huge publicity so that people with more talents can participate. The audition should not be limited to a particular place”.
He also advised them to build the event on the principle of truth. “Truth should be maintained. Winners should be chosen on merit”. He also canvassed more prize money and incentives to motivate and ginger more prospective participants.
Fashola Pelumi says okay but he expects more as the days go by. His worries border on the female winner of the last year’s Big Brother saying that the organisers were not fair. “Alex was to be the Winner but was given to Cee-c. We don’t expect a repeat of it this year. We want them to be fair.”He stated.
The same goes Emmanuel Ukpai, who because the event is hosted in Nigeria, urged the organisers to prepare for technical hitches like the power failure experienced on the first day. “They have been technical issues. From yesterday night the event started, the broadcast started behind the scheduled time.
The organisers should look into it so it does not discourage people from tuning in.” he said.
The show which will span 92 days on Africa Magic, and according to the organisers will be characterised by intense drama, romance spice with the theme “Forget Wahala.’ It will close on September 30.
The lucky winner will go home with N30 million cash prize while other ad-ons are a trip to Dubai for two; a home make-over courtesy and a year’s supply of Pepsi drink.
Others are ‘One Africa Fest VVIP experience’; a year’s supply of Indomie noodles & Munch it; and a brand new Oppo mobile smartphone.
There is also a bonus prize of two VIP Tickets to watch a European Football final game live.
Since the maiden edition, the show has produced celebrities like Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Gideon Okeke, Bisola Aiyeola, Efe Ejeba, Miracle Ikechukwu, Tobi Bakre and Cynthia “Cee-C” Nwadiora.
All eyes now on the 2019 edition.
