Union Bank has denied the speculation that it is in discussion with Access Bank Plc for acquisition by the latter.
Union Bank says the report, an unsubstantiated Blog post is mere rumors and speculation.
In a statement by the company’s secretary, Somuyiwa Sonubi said the attention of the bank had been drawn to a blog post circulating on social media that Access Bank is in talks to acquire Union Bank, advising the public to ignore such.
“As the post itself states the unfounded report is based on mere rumors and speculation”
He advised the Nigerian stock exchange, other regulatory agencies and members of the public are advised to disregard the publication in it’s entirety.
Equally, Access bank PLC, has denied engaging in any acquisition talk with Union Bank, saying recent social media reports are rumors.
Sunday Ekwochi, Access Bank’s Secretary, in a statement to Nigerian Stock Exchange, advised the Exchange, and the general public to discountance such rumors as same is devoid of truth.
“The bank is not engaged in any discussion with Union Bank of Nigeria PLC or any of its shareholders regarding any such transaction”
