The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), the educational arm of insurance industry in Nigeria, has introduced a boot camp for young insurance professionals in the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day boot camp at the weekend held at the College of Insurance and Financial Management (CIFM), Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the President, CIIN, Eddie Efekoha, tasked the participants on the need to stay relevant in the midst of all changes.
He said the program was conceptualized to help young insurance professionals walk in freedom to find greatness, adding that “I believe in everyone here and I am of the opinion you will all go on to become change agents.”
According to him, “Today, we take one more step as an industry in the quest to groom a new set of industry leaders.”
While calling on the young insurance professionals to embrace change, he said “I can assure you that in the next two years; a lot of things that are the hub of activities now might become obsolete. Cars are now being powered by electricity, whatsapp is introducing a payment platform that will greatly disrupt the financial services sector and robotics is gaining more ground as the days go by.
“As professionals, there is a need to stay relevant in the midst of all these disruptions. The only way to do this is to create a reputation that is synonymous with excellence, ingenuity and professionalism. To attain this profile is not easy, it takes a lot of sacrifice and today, you are making one of those sacrifices required to get to the top.
He said, “The potential that lies in each and every-one of you is enormous and the best part of it is that the key to unlock these potentials lies within you.”
You are the future of Insurance and in the not too distant future, I believe the Institute will be a reflection of the constructive input of everyone here and those that you will inspire outside this room. The institute has provided this forum as a platform for you to take flight from. It is my hope that you soar far higher than we will ever imagine.
He said the only way they can make a difference and becoming the leaders the industry and the society needs is through hardwork, dedication and focus just as he urged them to take advantage of the programme to improve themselves.
He said, the Institute early this year hosted the elders forum a programme regularly held to recognise elders of the insurance industry who have contributed to ensure the pride of the industry is guaranteed.
Director-General, Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), Mrs Yetunde Ilori, enjoined the participants to be well mannered and live to lay lasting legacies.
She urged the participants to be good ambassadors by spreading the knowledge they acquired in the programme amongst their colleagues.
She charged them to be ready to serve, adding that the growth of the industry lies in their hands.
Mrs. Ilori submitted that going forward, participants would be giving the privilege to choose who they want to educate and interact with them in the programme.
The two-day boot camp programme paraded speakers who are authority in Leadership training and personal development such as Mr. Niyi Adesanya; brightest minds in the Insurance Industry, Mr Segun Omosehin, Mr. Tunde Mimiko and Mr. Moruf Apampa, among others.
