Petrol Importation Slumps To 5.09bn Litres in Q3, Says NBS

The nation’s premium motor spirit (PMS) importation in the third quarter of 2019 slumped to 5.09 billion litres as against the 5.60 billion litres imported in the second quarter period ended June 30, 2019.
The drop represents a 9.14 percent decrease in the quantity imported as shown in the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Thursday.
According to the NBS data, the importation of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) for the period also fell by 14.40 per cent to 1.18 billion litres, down from 1.38 billion litres imported into the country in the second quarter of 2019, while Household Kerosene (HHK) importation rose to 12.83 million litres, up from 12.22 litres imported in the previous quarter, an indication of 5.06 per cent increase.
During the period, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) importation decreased by 99.95 per cent to 84,723, down from 157.2 million imported in the previous quarter, while the quantity of aviation turbine kerosene (ATK) imported fell to 73.59 million litres, down from 131.4 million litres of the preceding quarter, representing a 140.53 per cent decline.
On a month-on-month basis, the volume of petrol, imported into the country fell to 1.46 billion litres in September, down from 1.64 billion litres in August, representing a 10.97 per cent decrease while it fell by 26.6 per cent from 1.99 billion litres imported in July, 2019.
A further look at the data for the period under review showed that PMS importation was 2.24 billion litres in January; 1.56 billion litres in February; 1.07 billion litres in March; 2.07 billion litres in April; 2.01 billion litres in May, and 1.53 billion litres in June of 2019.
On the supply/distribution side, the data showed that State-wide distribution of truck-out volume of 2.02 billion litres of pms was distributed by trucks to all states including the FCT in Q3, 2019 compared to 157.27 billion litres in Q2 of the same year.
Similarly, it showed that the volume of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) imported into the country decreased in September to its lowest level this year at 322.63 million litres, compared to 377.91 million litres in August and 483.93 million litres in July of 2019.
In January 2019, a total volume of 43603 million litres of Diesel was imported into the country, which drop to379.75 litres in February. The country also imported 391.21, 351.18, 452.19 and 580.39 litres of Automotive Gas Oil respectively.
The data also revealed that a total of 1.25 billion litres of diesel were distributed across the country in Q3, compared to 1.28 billion litres in the previous quarter.
