Cruz Becomes Unilever’s New MD

Unilever Nigeria Plc Thursday announced the appointment of Carl Raymond Cruz as its new Managing Director.
In a statement by the Company’s Secretary, Unilever Nigeria, Abidemi Ademola said the appointment which was one of the resolutions reached by the Company’s Board of Directors on January 8, 2020, takes effect from February 1, 2020.
Cruz, a Filipino, is currently the Chairman of Unilever Sri Lanka and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from De La Salle University, Philippines.
Having joined Unilever in 1992, Cruz has over 26 years of experience to his belt, working in customer development, and in marketing roles across Home Care, Beauty & Personal Care and Foods and has successfully steered the business to a sustainable and competitive growth trajectory, thereby taking Unilever Sri Lanka to a greater height.
The statement reads in part: “He has not only established Unilever Sri Lanka as a market leader across key categories but also as the most admired employer, despite some very challenging conditions, including the Horana Fire in 2016 and the Easter Sunday Attacks in 2019.
“Under Carl’s leadership, the Sri Lanka business is well-positioned to become a lean, agile and digitally-enabled organisation. Carl’s passion for inclusion, experimentation, and empowerment is reflected in his vision of Re-Imagine USL – a transformational journey that he has led from the front.”
He comes with an extensive career in Unilever D & E Markets in Asia (Philipines, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka
Meanwhile, at the close of trading on Thursday, Unilever made the top five gainers chart by value, when it inched up 80 kobo to close at N18.8 per unit of share.
It is a British-Dutch transnational consumer goods company with headquarters in both London, United Kingdom, and Rotterdam, Netherlands. It deals on food and beverages, which accounts for close to 40 per cent of its revenue, cleaning agents and beauty & personal care products.
