Lagos Leads Others In N986.29 bn IGR.
Lagos State with N297. 09 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) again lead the other 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to record N986.29 billion at the end of September 30, 2019.
It was trailed by Rivers with N107.03 billion IGR
The total IGR of the 36 states including the FCT was N692.49 billion in June of the same year.
The National Bureau of Statistics disclosed this in its latest report on States’ IGR published to its website Wednesday.
The NBS stated that for a period of nine months, running from January to September 2019, the 36 states and FCT IGR figure rose by N293.80 billion or 42.426 per cent to N986.29bn at the end of the third quarter of 2019, from N692.49bn recorded in Half-year period of 2019.
Similarly, the Q3 2019 states and FCT IGR figure hits N293.80bn compared to N392.38bn recorded in Q2 2019, indicating a negative growth of 25.12 per cent quarter on quarter.
Of the IGR generated during the period, Seven States recorded growth in IGR while Thirty (30) States and the FCT recorded a decline in IGR at the end of Q3 2019, according to the NBS report.
A further breakdown of the IGR shows Yobe State recorded the least Internally Generated revenue during the period in focus.
The report further showed the top ten states with the highest IGR as of Q3 2019 to include; Lagos State with N297.096 billion, followed by Rivers State, which generated N107.026 billion, FCT recorded N55.723 billion to occupy the third spot. Ogun, Delta, Kaduna and the Akwa Ibom States all recorded N52.870 billion, N49.510 billion, N28.148 billion and N26.615 billion respectively during the period.
Other States in the top ten highest IGR include Kano State with N25.805 billion, Ondo which generated N24.536 billion and Kwara State with N24.0 billion.
On the other hand, Ekiti State topped the least IGR States, when it generated N8.305 billion for the period, followed Nasarawa State with N7.849 billion. Adamawa State recorded N6.817 billion, while Katsina, Borno, Kebbi and Ebonyi each generated N6.609 billion, N6.041 billion, N5.933 billion and N5.610 billion respectively.
Others in the category are Taraba with N4.722 billion IGR, Gombe State with N4.240 billion and Yobe State with the least IGR at N3.343 billion.
Meanwhile, in a related development, according to the data also released by the NBS yesterday on States’ debt stocks, the debt accruable to the 36 States of the federation and the (FCT) in the country during the same period rose by N7 billion or 1.76 per cent to N4.04 trillion in the third quarter period of 2019 from N3.97 trillion recorded as of the first quarter period of the same year.
Similarly, of the domestic debt of the N4.04 trillion owed by the States, Lagos state accounted for 10.9 per cent of the total domestic debt stock at N441.1 billion being the highest indebted State, despite recording a decline in its debt stock from the previous N479 billion, while Yobe State has the least debt stock, contributing 0.7 per cent to the total domestic debt stock.
A further breakdown of the figures shows that Rivers owes N266.9 billion, Akwa Ibom State with (N237.4 billion), Delta (N230.5 billion), Cross River (N167.9bn), Imo (N148.9bn), Osun (N141.7bn), Ogun (140.9bn), FCT (134.8bn) and Bayelsa State with N127.2 billion debt stock to make up the top 10 highest indebted states in Nigeria.
