Remarkably, the domestic bourse commenced the week’s trading positive, as investors’ interest in banking stocks and Nigerian Breweries that rose 10.0 percent spurred the market gains.
The value of transacted stocks also climbed by 94.10 percent, to N5.59 billion. Deals recorded midweek advanced by 38.43 percent to 7,759
The NSE All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 0.07 percent to 25,221.23, as Market Capitalization rose by the same margin 0.07 percent to end the day at N13.14 trillion.
The growth was recorded on the face of decline by 8.5per cent by DANGCEM. Thus, the All-Share index advanced by 0.1 percent to 25,221.23 points. Accordingly, Month-to-Date return increased to 9.6 percent, as Year-to-Date losses moderated to -6.0 percent.
The sectoral performance was fairly positive, as 5.4 percent gains in the Banking index and Consumer Goods index by 3.1 percent, masked 0.6 percent declines in the Industrial Goods index, 2.0 percent dip by the Insurance index and Oil and Gas index’s -0.3 percent decline. Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was positive by 2.8x, as 31 tickers gained, relative to 11 losers.
NB led the gainers’ chart Wednesday with N3.95 or 10.00 percent, to close the day at N43.45 per share, followed by DANGCEM which appreciated by N3.30 or 2.46 percent to close the trade at N137.30 per share, while STANBIC as the third-best gainer rose by N3.25 or 9.98 percent, to end midweek at N35.80 per share.
GUINNESS closed as the fourth-best gainer with N1.45 or 8.17 percent price growth, closing at N19.20 per share, while DANGSUGAR closed the top five gainers chart at N14.00 per share, having appreciated by N1.20 or 9.37 per share.
ARDOVA on Wednesday led the losers chart with N1.60 or 10.00 percent loss, closing the trade at N14.40 per share, followed by CALVERTON(BLS) with N0.14 or 5.36 percent to close at N2.47 per share, while NAHCO, the third-highest loser declined N0.08 or 3.33 percent, ending the day at N2.32 per share.
TRANSCORP declined by N0.05 or 6.49 percent, to end the day at N0.72 per share, while AFRIPRUD closed the top five decliners chart at N4.20 per share, having depreciated in share price by N0.05 or 1.1 percent.
