Stock Market Rises 0.17% On Nestle’s Gain

NESTLE’s N99.5 or 10.00 percent gain which ranks the highest on Wednesday was the booster for the equities market to reverse the declining trends to bullish and increasing value of transaction by 70.81 per cent to N2, 708,736,566.85 billion
Nestle stock closed higher at N1094.5 per share to end the day’s trading as the highest gainer.
Market capitalisation which opened trading for the day at N13,005,456 trillion, closed midweek’s session at N13,027,334 trillion, reflecting growth by N21.878 billion.
The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) All Share Index (ASI) appreciated by +0.17 per cent to close midweek at 24,972.89. Equities market Capitalization also appreciated by 0.17 per cent, ending the day at N13, 027,333,981,537.07 trillion. Accordingly, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date losses moderated to -1.2 per cent and -7.0 per cent, respectively.
Volume of transacted stocks increased by 32.72 per cent on Wednesday to end the day at 265,964,169.00 million shares, also, the value of stocks traded rose by 70.81 per cent to N2, 708,736,566.85 billion. However, the total number of deals recorded midweek declined by 15.02 per cent, to 3, 564,00
Analyzing sectors, the Oil and Gas index declined by 4.4 per cent, Insurance Index by -3.0 per cent, and Banking index by -0.8 per cent, as the Consumer Goods index appreciated by 4.2 per cent the sole gain of the day, however, the Industrial Goods index was flat.
Market sentiment, as measured by market breadth, was negative by 0.4x, as 24 tickers declined, relative to 10 gainers.
Secondary market BOND capitalization closed the day at N14, 666,637,354,639.60 trillion, while Exchange Traded Products (ETF) capitalization ended the day at N13, 399,461,439.84 billion.
Trailing NESTLE was FLOURMILL with N0.85 or 4.35 per cent growth, to end the day at N20.4 per share, while CADBURY as the third best gainer rose by N0.5 or 6.67 per cent to close the day at N8.00 per share.
ACCESS Bank closed as the fourth best gainer at N6.85 per share, following N0.1 or 1.48 per cent gain, while ZENITHBANK closed the top five gainers chart at N16.15 per share, having appreciated by N0.05 or 0.31 per cent.
SEPLAT closed the day as the topmost loser having dipped by N47.6 or -9.99 per cent, closing trade at N428.8 per share, followed by GUARANTY with N0.6 or 2.54 per cent decline as it closed the day at N23.00 per share, while DANGSUGAR, third on the losers chart dipped by N0.3 or 2.03 per cent, ending the day at N14.5 per share.
FIDSON closed trade as the fourth highest decliner, losing N0.23 or 6.34 per cent, to end the day at N3.4 per share, while REDSTAR closed the top five losers chart at N3.6 per share, following decline by N0.2 or 5.26 per share.
GUARANTY emerged the most active stock midweek with 43,674,620 million shares worth N1, 026,994,423.00 billion, recorded in 265 deals, followed by UACN with 41,199,388 million shares worth N288, 659,239.90 million, recorded in 82 deals, while FBNH, the third most traded stock polled 35,370,259 million shares, worth N178, 136,012.25 million recorded in 318 deals.
FCMB closed as the fourth on the scale with 22,543,472 million shares worth N38, 799,309.55 million, recorded in 84 deals, while ACCESS closed the top five activity chart with 15,347,244 million shares turnover, valued N104, 467,338.25 million, posted in
UHOMREIT ended midweek as the least in turnover with 22 shares valued N894.30 recorded in one deal, followed by AIRTEL AFRICA which pulled a total of 100 share, valued 30,600.00 in one deal, while CHAMPION [BLS] posted 300 shares worth N263.50, recorded in 2 deals, while SOVRENINS [AWR] posted 300 shares worth N60.00 in one deal, while NCR closed the top five activity chart with 330 shares worth N594.00 recorded in 22 deals.
