The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported a spike in Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases, with 604 new cases of infection.
The COVID-19 cases in Nigeria increased by 61 cases from 543 cases on Wednesday, July 22 to 604 cases on Thursday, July 23.
The NCDC, in its latest figures released via its Twitter handle, said Nigeria recorded 38,948 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
It added that 16,061 patients have recovered from the virus and consequently discharged.
Twenty deaths were reported by NCDC within the last 24 hours as a result of coronavirus, bringing the total deaths in Nigeria to 833.
Twenty States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to the NCDC, accounted for the new infection cases.
Lagos State remains the epicentre for COVID-19 in Nigeria, accounting for 203 of the 604 new cases.
Others are: Oyo, 87; FCT, 79; Edo, 41; Osun, 35; Ogun, 24; Rivers and Kaduna, 22 each; Akwa Ibom, 20; Plateau, 18; Delta and Ebonyi, nine each; Imo, eight; Enugu, Kano and Cross River, five each; Nasarawa, three; Borno and Ekiti, two each; and Bauchi one.
