Five Killed In Gas Station Explosion In Ipaja + Photos

At least five bodies have been recovered from a gas explosion that rocked Bestroof Gas Station at Baruwa Inside in the Ipaja, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The explosion occurred at 5.44 am when a tanker was in the process of discharging its content at a petrol station when the incident occurred.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said “a LPG tanker was in the process of discharging at the Best Roof Plant Station and the Station Generator was on and from there it was reported that explosion erupted.

“The explosion threw the discharging tanker across the road.

“There are casualties, five bodies have been recovered but search and recovery will be carried out after the emergency phase.

“Many buildings have been destroyed. The Best Roof Gas Plant Station is located in a densely populated community.”

A situation report by the Acting Coordinator, Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, indicated that the fire had been put off.

He said, “After putting out the initial fire, the stored gas in station started discharging the gas but without explosion currently. So far, five have been recovered dead and three rescued alive.

“Those rescued include a woman and two children and they have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) also confirmed the explosion in a series of tweets, saying its men were on the ground at the scene.

“Gas station currently on fire in Baruwa, Ipaja area of Lagos.

“Explosion occurred around 6am. The agency has activated our emergency response plan,” LASEMA said.
