PZ Cussons, African Prudential Lift NGX To N2bn Gain
The Nigerian Stock Exchange closed the week with a marginal gain as consumer goods giant, PZ Cussons Plc and African Prudential Plc were amongst the top gainers on Friday.
The All-Share Index ASI closed the market, gaining 3.94 index points or 0.01 per cent to close at 46,964.23 points up from 46,960.29 points recorded on Thursday.
Likewise, the market capitalization which represents the aggregate worth of all listed equities on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) rose N2 billion representing 0.01 per cent to close at N25.311 trillion compared to the N25.309 trillion market recorded the previous trading session.
Aside from PZ Cussons, Equities firms like African Prudential Plc, Japaul Gold Plc, FTN Circus Plc and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (CHI) Plc also boosted the marginal rise of the NGX indices.
The market turnover decreased by 17.5 per cent as investors transacted a total of 177. 09 million units of shares valued at N4.18 billion in 3,873 deals as against 214.69 million units of shares valued at N 2.625 billion in 4,003 deals bought and sold the previous day.
The market breadth returned negative with seventeen laggard equities and fourteen gainers compared to16 gainers and 14 losers recorded the previous trading session.
The losers’ chart was led in percentage parameters by Northern Nigerian Flour Mills Plc, losing 7.83 per cent to close at N10 per share.
Similarly, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) fell 7.22 per cent to close at N3.34 kobo per share, while Livestock Feeds Plc lost 6.06 per cent to close at N1.55 kobo per share.
Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc and I UPDC Plc declined 3.68 per cent and 3 30 per cent to close at N1. 57 kobo and N0. 88 kobo per share respectively.
On the flip side, PZ Cussons Plc dominated the gainers’ table in percentage terms, as the consumer’s goods firm climbed 6.90 per cent to close at M9.30 kobo per share.
In the same vein, Japaul Gold Plc and FTN Circus Plc appreciated by 6.45 per cent and 6.06 per cent to close at N0.33 kobo and N0.35 kobo per share respectively.
The top-five gainers’ chart was completed by African Prudential Plc and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (CHI) Plc as both firms rose 5.98 per cent and 5 per cent to close at N6.20 kobo and N0. 63 kobo per share respectively.
Fidelity Bank Plc closed the NGX market activity chart as the most active stock in volume parameters, trading 62.68 million units of shares valued at N206.47 million while Zenith Bank Plc closed as the most valuable company on the NGX with 22.04 million units of shares worth N591.22 million.
