The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the reappointment of Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NDICOM).

Dabiri-Erewa’s confirmation was followed by the presentation, consideration, and adoption of the report of the Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) by its Chairman, Senator Nnachi Michael.

Presenting the report at the plenary on Tuesday, Michael said Dabiri-Erewa possessed the technical and academic qualifications to function optimally and effectively in the position.

He said there was no petition against her ahead of her reappointment as NIDCOM Chairman and CEO for a second term.

Michael further stated that the nominee sponsored the Bill for the establishment of NiDCOM when she was a member of the House of Representatives.

He also wasted no time at all in commending President Muhammadu Buhari for Dabiri-Erewa’s re-appointment due to her steering performance in her first term of office.

President Buhari’s spokesperson, Bashir Ahmad also took to his Twitter handle to congratulate Dabiri-Erewa following her re-appointment.

“The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Mrs. @Abike Dabiri-Erewa for reappointment as the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) for a second term. Congratulations once again ma’am!,” Ahmad tweeted.

Recall that Buhari in a letter addressed to the Senate on May 2 requested that the Upper Chamber confirm Dabiri-Erewa’s reappointment.

Prior to her initial appointment in November 2018 as the NIDCOM boss, she was a former Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.
