Katsina- The Katsina State Government on Thursday said it had spent N1.5 billion on the expansion and equipping of three general hospitals in the state.

The hospitals are: Katsina General Hospital and two others in Daura and Funtua.

Conducting members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) round the project in Katsina Genera Hospital, Dr Bala Habibu, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, said the contractor had achieved about 70 per cent completion.

He said the project would cost the state government N800 million, while those of Daura and Funtua would gulp N700 million.

Habibu said the 800-bed capacity hospital, when completed, would be equipped with modern facilities to provide effective services to patients in the state.

He said the renovation and expansion of Daura and Funtua general hospitals, when completed, would bring health care services closer to rural dwellers and reduce the pressure on the Katsina General Hospital.

Habibu said the state government was providing free medical services to the people, adding, “a patient pays only N100 to get card. There is no consultation fee or room charges if on admission”.

“Drugs are provided under the Drug Revolving Fund where patients obtain medicine at a very subsidised rate,’’ he said.
