INEC Adjourns National Collation Results Announcement.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjourned the collation announcement of the 2019 General Election to 11am on Monday February 25, 2019. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made this announcement during the opening of the national collation centre on Sunday in Abuja. Representatives of some parties present at the occasion are the Comptroller- General, Nigerian Customs Service, (NCS) Col. Hammed Ali (rtd) representing APC, and Dr. Usman Bugaje representing PDP. According to the INEC boss, this decision was reached as a result of non arrival of scores from the states.

He said “At the moment no scope is around, some of them are expected tonight. Accordingly, proceedings are hereby adjourned we will reconvene at 11am tomorrow Monday 25th February 2019 for the collation of results.”   Earlier, Yakubu said that Ekiti state has completed collation and the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) was on his way with the results. As at the time of adjournment, the Ekiti state result is yet to arrive. Yakubu also explained the procedures of collating result, from the arrival from states to the announcement point and also set ground rules to govern the proceedings.

He said “Results from each state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) shall be presented by the state collation officer for the presidential election score who also served as the collation officer at state and FCT level. “After collating the result at state level, the score shall be accompanied to Abuja by the REC and security agencies. On arrival at collating centre, the score shall be received by the collation secretariat who shall organise the sequence of presentation.

“The retirement officer, that is myself shall invite the scope accompanied by the REC to the seat provided for the presentation of result. The scope following the format for the presentation of result shall announce the vote scored by each political party in the state including reports of cancellation and areas where elections did not hold.” “The retiring officer then invites comments and observation if any from the polling agents.”
