Obaseki Turned Deputy Governor Office To Business Secretariat
No respite yet as the Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has reportedly allocated the office of his deputy, Philip Shaibu, in Government House, Benin to Alaghodaro for use as secretariat.
Alaghodaro is a Benin word that describes progress or moving forward.
It is an annual investment drive by the Edo state government, which is Obaseki’s initiative.
According to a memo on Thursday, Edo Governor asked the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, to “immediately” allocate the deputy governor’s office building to the trustees of Alaghodaro summit as their secretariat.
The chairman of Alaghodaro, through its secretary, had written to Obaseki for a permanent secretariat building to aid planning and logistics for the 2023 summit scheduled for the second week of November.
A leaked memo, dated September 18, 2023, reveals that Governor Obaseki instructed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, to promptly assign the deputy governor’s office building to the trustees of the Alaghodaro summit as their secretariat.
According to the memo, the office space closest to the New Festival Hall of Government House, which was recently occupied by Shaibu, will now be allocated to the board of trustees of the Alaghodaro summit. This summit aims to attract potential investors from various parts of Nigeria.
As a result, Shaibu has relocated from the Government House and now occupies a new office at No. 7, Dennis Osadebey Avenue, GRA, Benin.
Some see this move as a sign of a growing disagreement between Governor Obaseki and Shaibu, who are rumored to have differences regarding the governor’s succession plans.
It is worth noting that Shaibu withdrew his anti-impeachment lawsuit against Obaseki on September 5, 2023, but remains determined to run for governor on November 12, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor has asked his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki, to forgive him for their political disagreements.
Shaibu made this heartfelt plea during an interview at his home in Benin City today.
Shuaibu noted that it is important for both of them to put their differences aside and work together for the good of the state.
He said “I use this medium to appeal to Mr Governor, if there is anything that I don’t know that I have done, please forgive me so that we can develop our state together.
“We have just one year to go. We have been the envy of the entire country. So Mr Governor, if there is anything you feel that I have done, please I am sorry. I need us to work together to finish well and strong.”
