Amotekun Foils Attempted Robbery Of 3 Banks, Kidnap In Ondo

The Southwest security outfit codenamed Amotekun, in Ondo state, has foiled the attempted robbery of three commercial banks and kidnap in lrele council area of the state, by seven robbery suspects.

One of the seven suspects has been arrested while six others escaped after a bloody gun battle.

Parading 36 suspected criminals in Akure, the state capital, the state commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, said that the suspects came from Sapele, in Delta state.

Adetunji added that the suspects came for a dual operation, to rob three banks and abduct the owner of a supermarket in the area.

According to him ”the seven suspected robbers came all the way from Sapele, Delta State for the purpose of kidnapping, and robbery of banks in Irele council area of the state.

”Six of them are at large, but we were able to apprehend the mastermind who accommodated the robbers.

 “We were equally able to get to the root of the target that they intended to kidnap to give the officers of Amotekun the feeling that it is mere robbery, whereas it was dual operation.

“The manhunt for the leader who escaped to Delta State is on. We are liaising with relevant government and security authorities to assist us in apprehending this runaway gang,” he said.

 The Amotekun boss said” The Intelligence available to us shows that they intend to rob three banks and kidnap the Managing Director of a supermarket.

 “Investigations showed that they liased with a staff of the supermarket who declined to join the group.”

Adetunji said that some of the suspects paraded were arrested for vandalising government assets.

According to him ” They actually went with a trailer to load pipes meant for world bank financed water project and successfully offloaded it and our operatives followed them and apprehended them where they offloaded at a different location.”
