ZLP Disclaims Withdrawal Of Candidate From Ondo Election
Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has denied that its governorship candidate and current deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, has withdrawn from the gubernatorial race in Ondo State.
The party, in a statement posted via its twitter handle @ZLabourparty, described the alleged withdrawal reports as fake news.
ZLP stated, “For the umpteenth time, and for the purposes of clarity and emphasis, the Deputy Governor and candidate of ZLP, Agboola Ajayi will not resign or back out from the race he’s winning ultimately.”
Agboola Ajayi defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after resigning his membership of the APC on June 21 at his country home in Kiribo, Ward 2, Apoi, in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state.
Ajayi also left the PDP to join the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) after he was defeated at the PDP primary election by Eyitayo Jegede.
Although the ZLP already had a governorship candidate, Rotimi Benjamin, he stepped down for Ajayi to contest as the party’s candidate in the October 10 governorship election.
According to him, he opted to contest the election under the aegis of ZLP to put practical effect to the expectations of the people who obviously are not enamored by the options offered by the two major parties.
The Ondo governorship election holds on Saturday, 10th October, 2020.
